Antique Gold Victorian Pearl Bird Locket

It is the sweetest of gifts, from mother to daughter or Aunt to Niece, from friend to friend or love to love. The locket, that great keep of things close to the heart, of photos, of secrets, of a lucky four leafed closer, it’s something that’s been around for ages and will be around for ages more.
This particular hand crafted gold locket was made in England in the Victorian Era. It is what is called a ‘back and front’ locket, meaning that the outer case is gold on the front and back but over an interior frame of base metal. The locket displays a delicate bird in flight set with white creamy seed pearls and getting ready to alight on branches bearing flowers set with red gems (I could not decide if the were garnets or paste, even using a microscope, sorry!). This locket has a lovely scrolling top and gold jump ring, it measures 38.4 mm from top to bottom and 21 mm across, it is 6.5 mm thick. This locket weighs 6.5 grams. The locket is marked on the back with ‘9ct Back and Front’.
