Antique Silver Repousse Iris Pendant Compact Pill Box

I’m always on the lookout for fantastic French repoussed boxes like this one. They used to be easy to come by, but these days they are getting few and far between, so I was delighted to find this one!
Hand crafted in France in the Art Nouveau era, this wonderful box probably started life as a pill box or perhaps as a compact to hold face powder. This silver beauty is fully repoussed front and back and shows a gorgeous fully realized Iris in bloom. The box is 48.5 mm long with the bale, and 42.5 mm across, it is 23 mm thick and weighs 10.8 grams. It is marked with ‘800’ for the silver content. This box doesn’t have French marks and it might be German, but it has a very French vibe to me!
