Antique Victorian Arrow and Circle Scottish Pebble Brooch Pin in Sterling Silver

He was a boy in her class that helped carry her books. His eyes were dark, like chocolate truffles. He had four freckles on his nose. His hair was sandy, windblown, and wavy. He walked her home every day that year, telling her jokes just to make her smile. She was 11 and he was 12. He was the boy next door. 10 years later he was the boy with the ring on his finger, making her coffee in the morning, still telling jokes because her smile made his heart skip a beat, and his stomach flutter, and his cheeks turn pink. This sterling silver arrow brooch was handcrafted in Scotland around 1880. It is a striking piece that measures 70.3 x 25.8 mm and weighs 8.3 grams. The back contains a c-clasp to fit snugly on your favorite top! Red and gray granite decorate this arrow and shield brooch. It has been acid tested.

Queen Victoria and Prince Albert were enthralled with Scotland since they first began to visit during the 1840s. In 1852, the couple purchased Balmoral Castle to reside in during summers. Queen Victoria owned the estate until her death in 1901. During that time, the demand for Scottish jewelry was high. Between the colorful pebble design made with native Scottish stones and the use of silver, this piece was very clearly made during this era of heavy Scottish inspiration. It was a time where traditional Scottish jewelry mixed with Victorian styles, inspiring themes such as Celtic knots, swords, kilts, thistles, plaid pins, and flowers.
