Antique Victorian Birmingham Stylized Owl Silver Locket

Athena, the Greek goddess of war, craft, and wisdom, was the daughter of Zeus. She was born fully grown in a body of armor and fought to protect civilization. From her beginning, she was depicted with birds, eventually the owl, typically seen perching on her arm, became synonymous with her. As time passed, the owl developed into its own symbol of wisdom and benevolence, a meaning that still lingers to this day.

This antique Victorian silver stylized owl locket was handcrafted in Birmingham, England in 1881. It’s an oval piece embossed with florals and the image of an owl on the front. It measures 64.5 x 36.4 mm and it weighs 18.4 grams. It bears the date letter, “g”, the anchor mark for Birmingham, and the lion for English sterling silver. The maker’s mark reads, “W&Co”.

Every woman needs a locket in her life, I think this one could be yours.
