Antique Victorian Bloodstone Gentleman's Ring in 18k Gold, Hallmarked 1879

This gorgeous bloodstone ring captivated me with its low profile and clean lines. It would have been crafted for a gentleman of the Victorian era. Often these rings contained a carved intaglio, but sometimes they were just left blank and in this case I think that this was the right decision, this smooth oval of highly red-flecked bloodstone doesn’t need any extra adornment, it’s perfect as is.

This wonderfully hand crafted ring was made in London, England in 1879 out of 18 karat gold and is hallmarked with these marks. The bloodstone measures 12.9 mm north to south and 10.7 mm across, it is set with a closed back so it’s not possible to know the depth. The ring face measures 14.3 mm north to south and it narrows to 4 mm wide at the back of the bank. This ring was most certainly made for a man, but would look fantastic on a woman. It is a size 8.5 US and weighs 9.7 grams, it could be re-sized a little bit, but I’m not sure how much, if you’d like more information just contact me with your ring size and I’ll be happy to find out.

Yup, a ring made for a man, but strong enough for a woman!
