Antique Victorian Carved Jet Watch Chain Necklace

I always dance a little jig when I find a great antique watch chain necklace in gold or silver, but I jumped extra high when I found this fantastic chain done in Jet.

Jet is a fossilized wood that is found mainly in England. It has been mined there since the mid-15th century. It has a wonderful velvety look and feel and is quite lightweight. Used extensively in jewelry in England from the time of Prince Phillips death in 1861 until the death of Queen Victoria herself in 1901. I guess Black has been the new Black for quite some time!

This hand carved Jet watch chain has an alternating paperclip link and is 19.25 inches long. What was crafted originally to hold a watch will now serve as a fantastic necklace. Made in Victorian England in about 1870, this piece weighs 16 grams.

This unusual and very beautiful necklace promises to be a conversation starter and compliment getter!
