Antique Victorian Citrine Garnet Ring in 15k Gold

The fog was so thick when we landed at Heathrow that I was amazed the pilot could see the ground to land the plane. We hopped a car for a ride out into the country to see one of my very favorite dealers. It’s such a treat to visit her in her remolded 16th century barn filled with light and antiques; and as we rode the sun started burning through the fog and revealed a beautiful clear and rich blue English sky. I felt a kind of homecoming as I pulled in the drive. Sitting at her dining table in a pool of sunlight I saw this ring and felt utter joy.

This stunning beauty has some signs of age, but I forgave her right away because I see nothing but her beauty shining through. Hand crafted in 15 karat gold, the ring is set with three bright and lively citrines, one yellow and two rich golden ones kissed with orange. Swooping along the top and bottom of the ring are 5 deep red garnets, each on its own golden stem. One of the stones is very abraded, and I considered replacing it, but I’m a little bit of a purist and I suspect that this stone and this ring have been together since the beginning. The ring is 14.5 mm north to south and 21.6 mm across, it sits 4 mm off the finger and while it’s marked, we couldn’t actually make out what those marks are. We carefully acid tested it as 15 karat gold. Made in England around 1900, this ring weighs 3.2 grams and is a size 6.65 US.
