The simple inscription inside this enchanting gold diamond and pearl ring reads "1682", a year which occurred a full two centuries before it was crafted. What, I wonder, was the meaning of this hidden message? 1682 was the year that the Bideford Witch Trials took place in southern England; the year that a young William Penn sailed to the New World, the year in which Edmond Halley spotted his comet soaring overhead from his own window. We’ll never truly know what story the original wearer had a sentimental attachment to; maybe you have a connection to 1682 all of your own?
This Victorian 18 karat gold diamond and pearl ring was handcrafted in England around 1890. A twinkling and bright .2 carat Old European cut diamond is placed in the center of a gold square, bordered on each side with an oval shaped natural half pearl with a silver white sheen set inside of a gold triangle. It is a size 7.5 US, and the face measures 8.6 mm from north to south and narrows to 3.4 mm wide at the back of the band. It contains the maker's mark, "WGSG" and weighs 4.5 grams.
This ring promises to be a staple piece in your jewelry wardrobe; a conversation starter if there ever was one - a bewitching ring with a hidden history, and so many captivating possibilities.
