Antique Victorian Garnet and Pearl Locket in 15k Gold

Victorians loved lockets; a form whose history far exceeds that of the photographs we put in them these days. Originally the locket was used to hold hair, ashes, relics and good luck charms, but one thing is the same, it was always meant to keep something precious close to your heart. This one is handmade with an exquisite eye to style and fashion.

The locket is 15 karat gold with a metal inner frame, sometimes referred to as 'front and back'. It is set with four garnets of rich wine-burgundy. Each lively garnet is accented by two creamy pearls and one a the center to round it out. The locket is a nice, medium size, it measures 1 1/8 inches across, and 1 7/8 inches long with the bale. It weighs 11.4 grams. Made in England around 1880.
