Antique Victorian Gold Compass Anchor Fob Pendant

Often given as a symbol of affection so that lovers separated could find their way back to each other, this wonderful anchor compass, having a decidedly nautical flair, was surely given by a woman to her lover to guide him safely back to her arms from sailing the stormy seas!

Set in 15 karat gold, this stout anchor shaped pendant (originally worn as a man's watch fob) is set with a lovely hand painted compass. The compass mechanism is perfectly set and mounted and still points to true North. On the back, the points of the compass are lovingly hand engraved. This pendant measures 30 mm long including the bale, is 15.4 mm across, 6 mm deep and weighs 5.2 grams. The detailing on this compass is so sweet and wonderful, it would look especially stunning worn around the neck on a period watch chain, but would also be equally fashionable on a simple cord or link chain. Though it is unmarked, the metal has been professionally acid tested to verify its gold content. It was most certainly made in England at the height of the Victorian era, around 1880.

This charming pendant would make a fantastic gift for that special someone you always want to be able to find their way back to you!
