Antique Victorian Gold Heart Locket

Victorians loved lockets; a form whose history far exceeds that of the photographs we put in them these days. Originally the locket was used to hold hair, ashes, relics and good luck charms, but one thing is the same, it was always meant to keep something precious close to your heart.

This wonderful locket was handcrafted in 9 karat yellow gold in England around 1890-1900. It is set with a sparkly paste gem and has frames inside to hold two photos. It’s a lovely example of a Victorian locket, with repousséd edges and a golden swag at the top. This locket measures 31.3 mm north to south and 20 mm across, it weighs 4.1 grams. It is marked on the back with a mark for 9 karat gold.
