Antique Victorian MIZPAH Band Ring 18k Gold

Mizpah is a beautiful word, steeped in history and time, as it originates its meaning from the bible. It’s a word that wishes another good luck and safe return when they will be gone for a while, sailing on the seas, or traveling across lands. During the Victorian era, crossing the Atlantic took around 7 – 10 days. Ships would typically sail off from Liverpool or Queenstown and land in New York Harbor. During a time of world exploration, sea travel, and war, Mizpah became a symbol of romance, desire, and chivalry. To gift this ring to another meant they were indelible on your heart, and with this ring they could find comfort when away.

This 18-karat gold MIZPAH ring was handcrafted in Chester, England in 1883. It’s a size 6 US band and it weighs 4.6 grams. The ring face measures 9.1 x 16.5 x 1.8 mm off the finger and the band width is 5 mm at the back. It has been fully hallmarked. It bears the crown mark, the Chester origin mark, the date letter, “u”, the gold purity mark, “18”, and the maker’s mark, “CyBs”.
