Antique Victorian Mizpah Ring Silver Gilt

There is a biblical phrase, found in Genesis 31:49, commonly known as Mizpah, which is a Hebrew word meaning, ‘watchtower’. It reads, ‘The Lord watch between me and thee when we are absent from one another’. Victorians and Edwardians adored this phrase, as it marked an agreement between two people, with God as witness. It was a common gift between a couple during the Victorian Era, and again during The Great War, as it was meant for two people who were to be apart for some time, that had promised loyalty to one another.

This Victorian antique ring was handcrafted in Birmingham, England, in 1880. It was made in silver gilt and weighs 2.8 grams. It bears the beautiful word, “MIZPAH” across the face. It is a size 6.25. The face is 9.3 mm in height and the band width is 3.2 mm. This ring is hallmarked with the lion mark for England, the anchor mark for Birmingham, and the date letter, ‘f’. The maker’s mark reads, ‘J.T’.

Take luck and love with you wherever you go with this darling Victorian band!
