Antique Victorian Sheild Shaped Bloodstone Ring in 15k Gold, Hallmarked 1883

Ah, the bloodstone, the birthstone of March, a symbol of life beginning anew in the colorful springtime.  This stone is beautifully carved into the shape of a shield, a protection symbol, a sign of heroism and audacity. It would look gallant on the finger of a gentleman or handsome on the finger of a lady.

This Victorian bloodstone ring was handcrafted in Birmingham, England, in 1883 and has a full set of marks to show it, plus a maker's mark which reads 'S.U'. The ring is marked 15 karat gold and acid testing bears this out.  The wonderfully engraved weighty shank perfectly encapsulates the shield shaped stone. It measures 13.3 mm north to south, and narrows to 3.2 mm at the back of the band, it’s a size 5.5 US and weighs 5.6 grams.

This chivalrous accessory would look regal on hand, you don’t even have to be born in March.
