The workmanship on this mid-Victorian locket is simply superb. Front and back and are small works of art done by a skilled craftsman. Completely handmade in 9 karat gold, the jeweler has shown a wonderful example of fine engraving. Open it and you'll find two photographs of a man and woman. Perhaps it was a memorial to a pair of cherished loved ones?
The locket weighs 3.8 grams and measures 13/16th of an inch (21 mm) wide and over an inch long (26 mm) without the bale. A softly sentimental locket with a sweet sense of history about it. Made in England around 1880, and marked '9Ct back and front', which means that this frame is 9 karat gold on the front and back and the center frame is made of base metal.
