Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Watch Chain, 18.5"

Tick tock, tick tock. Hard to believe, but it's only been a little over 100 years since trains and schedules first made it necessary for the average Joe to carry a time piece of some sort. And the best way to carry a watch? Why, in your pocket of course! Except then it could be hard to dig it out, so why not attach a chain? Eureka! The watch chain is born!

Of course these days most people wear watch chains like these around the neck as opposed to at the end of a watch. The T-bar that used to go through your button and provide a point of attachment now makes an excellent pendant, keeping the decorative chain from twisting and flipping on the neck. This one is completely handmade, measures 18.5 inches long and could be worn as well by a woman as by a man. It weighs 27 grams and while it's not hallmarked, it was undoubtably made in England around 1900.
