The best weeks of my year are spent at my husbands family cabin in the Great North Woods. It sits on a lake surrounded by giant pines and ringed in Lily Pads and there’s no Wi-fi and no cell signal and dinners are simple affairs often involving bonfires and sticks. There’s a perfect little dock out into the lake and we take chairs out and to the end and sit in the sun and read actual books on actual paper and watch the fish jump and dragonflies land on our hats and toes and stay for a while, protecting us from the occasional rouge mosquito or gnat. These are long, lovely days, even if they are few and far between.
This fabulous piece has been repurposed from a brooch into a stunning pendant necklace. Handcrafted in sterling silver and backed in 18 karat gold, this pendant features two Dragonflies holding a large, rectangular cut, aquamarine gemstone which measures 10.2x8x5.6 mm and weighs approximately 3.2 carats. The Dragonflies are each set with a glowing round faceted ruby eye, .1 carats total and each insect is covered in 18 rose cut diamonds, 36 in all, each of which measures about 1.8 mm across. Overall the pendant measures 38.1 mm from top to bottom and 49.5 mm across, it is unmarked but has been acid tested, the chain is 9 karat gold and in all the necklace is 17.5 inches long and weighs 6.9 grams.
The drop to this necklace dates to about 1920, the conversion is more modern. The pin stem has been removed so that it lays flat.
