Art and Crafts Antique Amethyst Silver Pendant

She fingered the silver and amethyst pendant as she spoke, she did this whenever she began to get angry or frustrated, he knew, she said Amethyst had special properties, she said that it could sense her furies and calmed her both body and soul. He didn’t much go in for this sort of thing, but he had to admit that there had been a time or two when she’d forced him to put it on his forehead and he’d felt silly, but also felt the worries of his day melt away. He knew it wasn’t the stone, he knew what it was, it was her.

This fantastic Arts and Crafts era gem features a rich and deep tear drop of purple amethyst which has been capped with a sterling silver hanger of olives and olive leaves, quite intricate and very beautiful. The pendant measures 55.5 mm north to south and 29 mm across, it is 10.6 mm deep. It is most likely by the Arts and Crafts firm of Shipton & Co, but it is unmarked and we’ve acid tested it as sterling silver. This wonderful piece was made in England in about 1915 and it weighs 19.2 grams.
