Art Deco Red Stone Marcasite Dress Ring Silver and Gold

This vintage cocktail stunner is one of those chunky statements I can’t seem to get enough of these days. It’s Art Deco at its finest, a true ring from the 20s. Yet, somehow it spent time in the 60’s just off of Fifth Avenue and just last week it was seen at fashion week in Paris on the finger of a socialite.

This Art Deco ring was handcrafted in England around 1925. At the center is a stunning synthetic spinel stone in a brilliant red shade, it’s oval, faceted and oh so lovely. It’s bordered by faceted marcasites set in silver on a 9-karat gold band. This bold ring is quite large, the face of it measures 21 mm north to south, 16.5 mm across, and it sits 6.2 mm off the finger. The band width narrows to 1.2 mm at the back. It bears the silver fineness mark, “900”, the top of the ring is all silver and the band has been acid tested as 9 karat gold. This ring weighs 7 grams and is a size 7.75.

Spinel is a precious stone which used to often be mistaken for fine Ruby, which is understandable with it’s stunning red color. The gem can be quite pricey, but this ring contains not a true spinel, but a synthetic one, making it equally beautiful but also affordable.
