Art Nouveau French Silver Slide Locket Pendant Dropsy

Jean-Baptiste Emile Dropsy worked as a medal artist from the late 1870s through the 1910s. During this time he made many religious medals, which he predominantly did to help pay the bills,; when he was crafting for his own pleasure, he made pieces like this one. Beautiful women in the Art Nouveau style were a favorite of this gentle giant who had left his families trade as sculptors of marble to follow his own passion.

This fantastic French slide locket is so rich in detail that you can almost smell the flowers, just like the beautiful woman showcased here. This large locket contains a mirror, giving it a wonderful mysterious effect. The locket is crafted in silver and contains French hallmarks, the boar and a makers mark, as well as Dropsy’s signature to the front. This locket is plain to the reverse and measures 59 mm north to south including the bale and 47.7 mm across, it weighs 40 grams.
