Georgian Engraved Silver Gilt Wedding Band Ring
Only the Georgian era could accomplish such a feat, and with such modesty, too. One of a pair that I found on a recent foray to London, it’s the type of Instagram-worthy band that steals second glances and causes temporary speechlessness. It’s almost as if it was deliberate, a two-hundred-year old plan plotted with meticulous detail and raging success. Go ahead, show it off, I insist.
This fabulous Georgian silver gilt band was handcrafted around 1790-1800. A simple band with beautiful patterned engraving that encircles the entire ring, it is also adorned with four hand carved flowers that look to my eye a bit like a thistle in bloom from above! This impressive antique band is a size 9.5 and weighs 7.6 grams. The ring face measures 9 mm wide all the way around and sits 1.9 mm off the finger. It has been professionally acid tested for metal content, and it bears the date mark, “13” and another unidentifiable mark on the outside of the band, and was likely made on the continent.
