Some nights I like to enjoy a margarita pizza on the back deck with a bottle of Chianti, because why not? Throw in some garnets and I have myself a party. The hubby refills my glass as the sun sinks into the trees. The garnets around my neck glimmer in the dimming light, matching the richness of the wine and the redness of the clouds. It’s the quiet soirées that I savor the most.
This antique Edwardian gold garnet necklace was handcrafted in England around 1910 by Murrle Bennett & Company. It’s a beautiful piece that measures 17.75 inches in length and showcases a floral design made of 15 round faceted garnets patterned with six white pearls. The garnets weigh an approximate total of 5.0 carats. This necklace weighs 4.7 grams. It bears the Murrle Bennett & Co maker’s mark, “MB&Co”. This piece has been acid tested at 9 karat gold.
If there’s anything I’ve learned about antique jewelry, it’s that pieces like this can and should be worn outside of special occasions. They should be worn on whims and desires, on impulse and even if it’s just for yourself.
