Bloodstone Cat Seal Fob 15k Gold Pendant

Queen Elizabeth, although a dog lover, was fascinated by the ancient Egyptian’s love for felines. Despite the creature being considered utilitarian, she adopted two Blue Persians whom she treated as members of her court. Word got out and soon enough the trend spread throughout England and even made it to the United States. More and more people were buying cats and of course, the frisky feline found its way into fashion. This fabulous fob is just one example of the craze. Cats became cherished pets once again during the Victorian Era and symbolized nobility and living a long and virtuous life.

This Victorian fob pendant was handcrafted in England around 1870. It showcases a bloodstone intaglio featuring a fancy cat strutting around as a garter encircles him, reading, “Virtus Sola Nobilitas” which is Latin, meaning “Virtue alone is noble Virtus Sola Nobilitas”. This fob measures 26.8 x 15.7 x 13.6 mm and it weighs 8.7 grams. There are no marks and it has been acid tested as 15 karat gold.

Don’t be a scaredy-cat, be the cat’s meow with this antique fob. String it on a chain and wear it like a necklace, hang if from a bracelet or don it the traditional way and hang it on a watch chain.
