Crown and Staff Gold Scottish Brooch Agate

$ 1,750.00

The Scepter always seems an oddity to me, but the staff from which it evolved dates back to earliest days of antiquity. Pharaoh’s carried them and the shepherd’s crook shape was known to be popular with that Ancient Egyptian crowd. From the Egyptians the staff became a scepter and passed through the Greeks and Romans, flowing into the British Isles where the Kings and Queens of England carry them to this day.

This wonderful Scottish brooch has a crown and scepter motif, hand crafted in 15 karat gold, the crown is set with black and what goldstone and red dendritic agate. This wonderful brooch measures 18 mm north to south and 88 mm long, it has a safety chain for added security and weighs 9.5 grams. This brooch is unmarked but has been carefully acid tested to asses the gold as 15 karat.

Made in England around 1880.
