Early Victorian Enameled Flower Lock Pendant 14k Gold

Have you been to Budapest? If not, you should go, if so, you should go again. A city of hot baths, castles, Ruin Pubs (yes, bars in ruins!), great food and the blue Danube around every bend. Oh, and did I mention the wine? I should warn you, it’s some of the best in the world. I was wandering in and out of antiques shops along Falk Miksa Street when I came across this charming lock; thought I’d bring a little bit of Budapest home with me.

Fully handcrafted of 14 karat gold with a rosy hue, this lock is set with an enamel panel showing flowers of red and leaves of green against a cobalt blue background. The lock functions well and would be lovely on a chain or as a bracelet clasp or charm. This pendant measures 31 mm north to south and 21.8 mm across, it’s 6.6 mm deep. This lock is unmarked but has been carefully acid tested as 14 karat gold.

Made around 1850, probably in Europe, perhaps in Hungary, where I found it!
