Early Victorian Silver Bloodstone Rosary Necklace

A rosary is a personal thing, in many a tale a rosary may be the last thing left to the hero, that final and most prized of possessions that comforts the soul. This rosary has spent more than one lifetime on earth, worn soft and smooth with decades of caresses, the reassuring feel of it’s presence is often comfort enough.

This wonderful hand crafted rosary has bloodstone beads and silver crucifix and fittings. The top bale is marked with the the boar’s head silver assay mark showing it was made in France; and while it’s been around and loved since about 1860, it’s still in really wonderful condition and ready for another generation or three of use. The loop is 23 inches long and the crucifix hangs on a 6 inch drop of chain. The rosary weighs 25.1 grams, the small beads measure 6.2 mm in diameter and the larger ones are 8.4 mm.
