Edwardian Engraved Gold Heart Locket

This beautiful locket brings the joy of the holidays to mind! Holly was associated with Christmas for centuries before the Victorians used its image on Christmas cards, creating a trend that’s lasted for more than a century. I tend to go overboard with the holiday décor and decorate my table, mantle, and front door with this cheerful plant of red and green. Before it was associated to the holidays, holly was used for decoration inside and outside the home to protect against evil spirits and to encourage fertility.

This antique Edwardian heart locket was handcrafted in England around 1900. It was made in 9 karat gold and weighs 3.0 grams. This locket measures 30 x 19.4 mm. The front and back of this beautiful piece showcases an engraved holly motif. When opened, two antique photographs are revealed. Each picture is of a young man, possibly brothers. Each image is held in with a frame. This locket pendant has been acid tested.

Holly is a beautiful bush that brims and burnishes in the daylight and is the perfect motif for a locket.
