Edwardian Triple Opal Diamond Ring 18k Gold 1904

$ 2,750.00

The Victorians were mad for three and five and seven stone rings. They used a combination of diamond, ruby, sapphire and opal most commonly in these lovely rings. Sometimes they even put little diamonds in-between, or sometimes they alternated stones or mixed them up. They were even known to use a variety of gems to spell out a word, like ‘dearest’ or ‘regard’. Today, their ubiquity in this bygone age has redounded to our great fortune, as they still look the part for any occasion and make the perfect stacking ring in any combination!

Here we have a stunning example in opal and diamond. Hand crafted in 18 karat gold, this lovely ring is fully hallmarked and was made in Birmingham, England in 1904. The marks include the crown, the anchor for Birmingham, ’18’ for it's gold purity, the lower case ‘e’ for the year 1904, as well as a maker's mark and insurance inventory number. The claw set mount has beautifully carved shoulders and is graced with three bright and vibrant opals with lively tones of blue, green and orange, as well as four bright and sparkling old European cut diamonds for added interest. The ring sits 4.5 mm off the finger and measures 7.1 mm north to south, 20 mm across, and weighs 4 grams. This lovely Victorian opal and diamond ring is currently a US size 9, but could be sized a bit upon request.

The Victorians ladies absolutely loved this style of ring, but I don’t think they were quite as savvy as we ladies are today because we’ve realized that this kind of ring is perfect for stacking!!
