Fabulous 18k Gold Diamond Opal Ring Edwardian Antique

In the Middle Ages, opals were rare and were considered to provide the possessor with great luck. It was thought that a stone which encompassed the colors of all the other stones would provide the same protection as all of them combined.

This Opal ring has a good deal more going for it than just this beautiful and lucky opal, it also has two chunky Old European cut diamonds to act as a most beautiful supporting cast. The luscious Edwardian ring was hand crafted in about 1900-1910 in a rich, buttery 18 karat yellow gold. It is set with an oval cabochon at its center which measures 7.3x5.9x2.4 mm and weighs about 0.60 carats. The two diamonds are super bright and lively old cuts which weigh about 0.80 carats together. The ring measures 7.8 mm north to south and 17 mm across at the face, it sits 3.8 mm off the finger and narrows to 2.3 mm at the back of the band. This ring is unmarked and we’ve tested it to confirm it’s 18 karat gold content, it’s a size 6 US and weighs 3.1 grams.
