Funky Large Victorian Love Knot Diamond Ring Hallmarked 1884

I have long fingers and long fingers need rings of substance. When I saw this beauty sparkling in the sunlight of my friend and supplier’s kitchen, I popped it on and didn’t take it off again for a week. It’s unusual looking for a Victorian ring and I suspect that it was originally made for a gentleman, but it looks equally brilliant on my long fingered lady-hands!

This fully hallmarked ring was made in London, England in 1884. It looks like a large ‘X’, but I actually think it was created as a love knot ring and it’s set with 3 old European cut diamonds in a gypsy style. The diamonds add up to about .35 carats and the ring is crafted in 18 karat buttery yellow gold, and is marked ’18’ for the gold content. This ring measure 11.5 mm north to south and sits super flush, only 2 mm off the finger, it narrows to 8.2 mm at the back of the band and so will be a slightly snugger fit than a ring with a thin band, it’s a size 9 and weighs 7.3 grams.
