Galleon Ship Silver Ring Midcentury Scandinavian

Ships have had a plethora of symbolism over the years. They could mean safe harbor, or they could be a sign of travel. They could indicate hard work or even signify industrialization. They could be a symbol for a man in at sea as a seaman or a sailor in the military. That’s how I imagine this one, as a gift from a wife to her sailor husband, so he’d never forget her, not for a second.

This perfect vintage silver ring was handcrafted, probably in Scandinavia, around 1950. It features a Galleon in full sail, riding the waves of the sea, its flag blowing in the wind. The shoulders are carved into Celtic motifs. It’s a size 7.75 and weighs 4.5 grams. The face is 20.5 x 18.8 x 3 mm off the finger with a band width of 4.3 mm. It’s hallmarked with the word, “SILVER”.
