Large Edwardian Silver Slide Locket Pendant Cherubs Hallmarked 1907

This beautiful cherub locket was influenced by Raphael Sanzio’s oil painting, “Madonna di San Sisto”. I had the pleasure of viewing this classic work of art on my last trip to Dresden. He paints the Madonna holding the Christ child with Saint Sixtus and Saint Barbara standing on either side. Cherubs make up the foreground, resting their little elbows, staring languidly around the frame.

This antique Edwardian silver slide locket was handcrafted in Birmingham, England in 1907. It features a repousse motif of five cheery cherubs in the clouds. When slid open, this round pendant reveals one enclosed frame lined in pink fabric. This piece was made in silver and has been acid tested, there is some silver guilt left on the inside. This locket measures 74.5 x 49.3 mm and weighs 20.5 grams. It bears the lion hallmark for England, the date letter, “h” for 1907, the anchor mark for Birmingham, and the maker’s mark, “H M”.

This playful locket would be the ideal gift for a bride-to-be, a First Communion gift, or even as a treat for yourself!
