Some jewels were meant to be worn by candlelight. Paired with velvet, rich foods and richer wine. Some jewels don’t need a chain, just a velvet ribbon, hair swept up, bow at the back, setting off that delicate V at the base of your long, lovely neck.
This pendant is either late Georgian or early Victorian, the style and collet settings say Georgian, but the pendant is open backed, so I would date it to about 1820. It’s most definitely English, and a beautiful and rare form, indeed. Set with four very deep and red faceted garnets, the center of which measures 12x10x4.8 mm and weighs about 5 carats, the other four are .8 each and add up to 3.2cttw. The cross is fully hand crafted in 15 karat gold, it measures 43.2 mm north to south including the bale and 34 mm across, it weighs 5.7 grams.
