There is a myth that says that the Inuits have hundreds of different words for snow. It’s not true, actually, but as someone who lives in Wisconsin and is familiar with the many different faces of snow, I can understand why this myth has persisted. Wet snow, light snow, windy snow, those fat flakes that look like little handkerchiefs slowly dancing from the sky, they all seem to deserve their own word. Diamonds and Pearls could be a type of snow, too. On the morning after a big storm, the way the sun sparkles off the freshly fallen flakes, the pearly white of it; yes, Diamonds and Pearls snow might just be my favorite kind.
This fantastic ring is, I believe, continental European in origin. Hand crafted in 14 karat gold, it was made in the Late Victorian era, around 1890. It is set with 8 chunky old European cut diamonds that sparkle like… well like sunlight on snow! The diamonds add up to about 2.14 carats in total weight and the wonderful cultured pearl at the center has a slightly pink/green color, it is 6.28 mm in diameter and is peg set. This ring measures 14.3 mm north to south and 14.8 mm across at the face, it sits 9.2 mm off the finger and narrows to 1.5 mm wide at the back of the band. It is marked ‘585’ for 14 karat gold and weighs 5.1 grams. This size 8.25 ring could be re-sized to suit.
This ring comes with a full appraisal by an accredited, independent antique jewelry dealer, the replacement value is $7580.00.
