Lovely Antique 15k Gold Victorian Locket

You could wear this for opening night at the Shaftesbury, or with a long cardigan on a windy fall day.  It would feel at home in a French café or in the lobby of the Barclay Hotel.  Your grandmother wore one, your mother wore one, doesn’t make it passé, just gives it a century worth of elegance.

This 15 karat gold locket was most certainly made in England, handcrafted around 1890.  It has a plaque front and back that could have been used for initials if some owner throughout the decades had been so inclined. None was. The front and back are repousséd, engraved and embossed, the inside contains one frame and holds a photo of a lovely young woman (we call these ‘instant ancestors’).  The locket opens easily and closes securely, the hinge is steady with no wobbles. The locket measures 41.5 mm long, 25.8 mm wide and 10.4 mm deep. It has been acid tested to verify the 15 karat content and the gold has a rosy hue, it weighs 7.9 grams.
