Murrle, Bennett and Company began in London in 1896. Founded by John Baker Bennett and Ernst Mürrle, the company went on to have workshops in London and Pforzheim, Germany. In just a few short years the firm produced and imported a vast array of affordable hand crafted jewelry done in the Arts and Crafts and Modernist styles. The company dissolved in 1916 when Bennett had already left to start his own business and Mürrle was interned on the Isle of Man due to his German nationality.

This wonderful necklace is a fantastic example of the jewels that Murrle, Bennett and Co. were producing at the height of their production in about 1900. The necklace was likely produced for sale at Liberty and Co. in London, as a lot of Murrle Bennett pieces were, it has the iconic look and colors of a Liberty piece. Set with a mother of pearl plaque and decorated with blue enamel forget me not flowers, this necklace has its original hand crafted chain and bar and toggle closure.

A fantastic example of Arts and Crafts design this necklace is marked to the reverse with ‘950’ for the silver content and the MBCo maker’s mark, it is 17 inches long when laid out and weighs 11.5 grams.
