Retro Era Aquamarine Gold Ring

Aquamarine is the Latin name for, “water of the sea”, as the most revered aquamarines are a natural bluish-green shade. They were first documented around 480 BC and symbolized eternal youth and happiness. They were thought to quicken the intellect of the wearer and make him or her more amiable. During ancient times, if a sailor wore an aquamarine amulet, it was thought to make the wearer fearless and invincible to the perils of the sea.

This vintage solitaire aquamarine and gold ring was made in France around 1950. The baby blue oval aquamarine stone measures 16 x 11 x 7.8 mm and weighs approximately 7 carats. It is set in a 14 karat gold face which features a floral and rectangular design, perfectly complementing the color and shape of the gemstone. The face measures 22.6 x 18 x 8 mm off the finger and the shank has a bandwidth of 4 mm. This piece is marked with the gold purity mark, ‘585’, for 14 karat gold. It bears a French mark, the St. Jacque Shell, with the number, ‘8’ inside, which means this piece is an import and is less than 18 karat gold. This ring is a size 8 and weighs 7.5 grams.

For a look that will be stylish for another hundred years, this ring is absolutely perfect!
