The grape motif is far from new. In Ancient times, it was a symbol for the Roman God Bacchus, the god of wine and vegetation. You could honor him by drinking wine, and many wine cups were decorated with images of grapes and vines. Grapes were likened to danger and debauchery. Grapes are one of the oldest domesticated crops known to man, they’ve been cultivated for 6,000-8,000 years. The oldest known winery dates to 4,000 BC, in Armenia.
This vintage silver grape and leaves ring was likely handcrafted in Denmark. It’s an oval shaped ring with winding shoulders on a size 8 band. It weighs 2.9 grams. It bears the silver fineness mark, “830S” and the maker’s mark, “CKH”. The ring face measures 20.8 x 12.4 x 4 mm off the finger and the bandwidth is 2.8 mm at the back.
Grapes are a popular symbol in Christianity and have been for nearly 2,000 years. The bible refers to the vine many times, and Jesus himself once declared, “This is my blood,” as he held a cup of wine.
