Victorian 18k Gold Buckle Ring English Hallmarked 1878

The buckle was quite a common motif in Victorian jewelry, much like the snake, the eternal nature of the buckle, the fact that it threads back unto itself creating an eternal loop, made it an excellent representation of unending love, fidelity, and strength. Handcrafted in 18 karat gold, this buckle ring was made in London, England in 1878 and is fully hallmarked with the maker's mark 'M.M.', as well the hallmarks for gold content and the city and date of manufacture. It weighs 5 grams, and is currently a size 7 but could be fairly easily sized up or down.

This lovely mid Victorian buckle ring is an early example of this romantic tradition, and would make a terrific wedding band or a special reminder of that one special love in your life.
