It's all in the odd numbers, I guess. Those Victorians just loved their 3, 5 and 7 stone rings. Here is a wonderful example of a five stone ring, which was often referred to as a 'half hoop' ring or sometimes a "boat" ring because of the tapering shape. Crafted from warm 18 karat gold with beautifully hand engraved shoulders, done all in diamonds full of sparkle and fire, it is a glowing example of this type of ring!
Hand crafted in about 1890-1900, this ring was originally fully hallmarked, but while still partially visible, the remaining marks are too worn to read and some have been sized out altogether at some point. It does have a more modern 18 karat gold mark, likely from when the ring was re-sized, but it has been professionally acid tested for metal purity. The stones are all original and beautifully matched. I would confidently estimate the weight of the stones at about .25 carats in total. The ring measures 16.6 mm east to west and 6 mm north to south, sits 3.4 mm off the finger and weighs 3.3 grams. Currently it is a size 6.25 US, but it could be easily be re-sized up or down a bit.
This wonderful and sparkly Victorian diamond 5 stone ring would play nicely in a stack, and would certainly make a lovely wedding ring or anniversary band. When I have it on my finger, I find it simply impossible to take my eyes off of it!
