Victorian Amethyst Gold Pendant

Up until the 18th century, the Amethyst was considered to be among the cardinal gems, along side diamond, sapphire, ruby and emerald. For a time it's wear was reserved only for royalty, and the rich purple hue has long been associated with nobility and wealth. This fantastic pendant boasts such gems with that deep velvety feel. They make you understand why Royalty used to claim this most regal of stones all it’s own!

Hand crafted in 12 karat gold around 1860, this lovely pendant has 9 stunning amethysts (five round and six oval old cuts), all set in a cross motif. The gems are all bezel set in collet style settings, and have a combined approximate total weight of 8.87 carats. Overall the pendant is 1 and 3/8 inches north to south including the bale, it is 1 and 1/8 inches wide and it weighs 7.6 grams. It is not marked in any way but tests as 12k gold.

This is a fantastically regal pendant which would look equally wonderful on a chain or simple black cord and could be worn with anything from blue-jeans to ball-gowns!
