It sat on her finger with elegance and ease, matching her thoughts with its colors, always flowing and brilliant. Even in moonlight, the opal was alive with its neon rainbow of seeming luminescence. She wore it to make her bad days good and her good days great.

This antique Late Victorian opal and diamond cluster ring was handcrafted in England, around 1890 to 1900. It features a colorful precious opal which weighs approximately  2.4 carats, it is oval cabochon cut and 11 x 9 x 4.2 mm. The vibrant opal displays flashes of blue, green and red, it is surrounded by 16 Old European cut diamonds. Each diamond is approximately 2 mm in diameter, with all 16 stones totaling .64 carats. The ring face measures 16.5 x 14.5 x 6.0 mm. This piece was made in 18 karat gold in a size 9.5. It weighs 4.0 grams and has been acid tested.

Precious opals are known for their diffraction of light, called ‘play of color’, in which rainbow colors shine from inside the stone like a kaleidoscope of firelight. Most of the world’s opals are found in Australia. There is an Aboriginal legend that says opals came from where the Creator touched his feet to the ground as he descended from the heavens on a rainbow.
