Victorian Diamond Enamel Dogwood Flower Brooch Pin 14k Gold

My mother was a Virginian, and like any good Virginian she loved her some Dogwoods. The only state to have the Dogwood as both its State flower and its State tree, Virginians love it so much that they couldn’t even choose! Native to the east coast of the US, the fact that it was planted heavily on the estates of both Washington and Jefferson do doubt factors highly into Virginian’s passion for this beloved plant.

This gorgeous enameled brooch features a beautifully detailed pink dogwood flower so sweet and lovely and that you can almost smell Spring in the air! This brooch is hand painted and hard enameled in shades of pink, burgundy, white and yellow and the center is set with an old European cut diamond. The brooch is crafted in 14 karat gold and was no doubt made in America, in about 1890. It has a hanger to the reverse and could be worn as a pendant. It is a somewhat delicate piece and it’s gotten some love over the years which appears in the form of a few chips to the ends of the petals, but overall it’s so lovely that I was willing to forgive it, but please look carefully at the photos. The brooch measures 32.2 mm north to south and 32.7 mm across, it’s 9.3 mm thick and while unmarked it tests as 14 karat gold. The diamond is about .15 carats, F/G color and VS1 clarity The brooch weighs 7.3 grams. The enamel has a fantastic matte-like finish.
