Victorian Garnet Gold Wreath Earrings

There’s everyday jewelry, the engagement rings and wedding bands and diamond stud earrings that we wear from soccer practice to lunch with the ladies; and then there’s special occasion jewelry, the diamond necklace we pull out for black ties and weddings. I think we could call these Holiday Jewelry. Perfect for any night from October through February. They’d work fine on a yacht in June, too, but December is where this pair would really shine brightest.

These wonderful earrings were fully hand crafted in Victorian England in about 1880. Each earring is comprised of a lovely drop shaped wreath set with an oval cabochon of rich, red garnet. These earrings measure 35.5 mm from top to bottom and 19.2 mm across, the gems are 9.7x7.8 mm with closed backs. The earrings are unmarked but have been carefully tested as 9 karat gold, together they weigh 7.3 grams.
