Victorian Gold Citrine Riviere Necklace

The boats anchored just off the coast were glowing with strings of lights and the sound of laughter carried across the water to those on shore. The town was alive tonight, with the rich and famous, with onlookers, with paparazzi armed with camera lenses that seemed impossibly long. The Riviera was calm and the lights from the boats reflected in the water making the parties seems twice as large.

This kind of necklace is known as a Riviere and is named after those waters, you can almost imagine why, as this strand of richly colored citrines glows like those lights reflected in the shimmering water. This particular strand has wonderfully cut and faceted stones, the color of a good Scotch Whiskey, and a lot of them at that; over 70 carats in all. Hand crafted and set in buttery yellow 9 karat gold, this English beauty contains 28 oval faceted citrine in a perfect 17 inch length and has a little safety chain to keep them secure. The necklace weighs 24 grams. Made in England in about 1880-90.
