Victorian Gold Enamel Cross Locket Engraved

It was morning and the crisp dawn of a spring day shown down on the faithful as they entered the tall white church for Sunday service. Roses were budding outside, bordering the steep steps in color and hope. She sat next to a stained glass window, patterned with a star made of blues, greens, and reds. Light shown through it and spread those same colors onto her cheeks. The choir began singing, “How Great Thou Art” and she joined in, smiling. Her locket was around her neck, and as she knelt down to pray, she held it, thankful, and joyful.

This fantastic antique gold bible locket pendant was handcrafted around 1870. It was made in 15 karat gold and features a beautiful blue enameled cross on the front. This brilliant blue cross is known as a cross Moline, a Christian cross, typically associated with St. Benedict of Nursia, who founded the Order of Saint Benedict in the year 529 AD.  The front and back of this piece are engraved with graceful and swirling gold designs. This piece weighs 5.6 grams and measures 29.3 x 17.7 x 4.9 grams.

This locket is one of those pieces that when I hold it I want to wear it all the time. Luckily it’s versatile and beautiful so it can be used at church, or out and about.
