Victorian Halley's Comet Pendant Necklace Locket Backed DIamond Pearl Lapis

The Georgians saw Halley’s comet soar across the heavens in 1835. The jewelry trade found its muse amongst the stars and soon thereafter pins, pendants, and brooches bore the comet’s symbol. The motif was influenced by the actual shape of the comet as it approached the sun – as it heated up and produce a tail that streaked across the sky.

This antique Victorian diamond and pearl pendant was handcrafted in England around 1860. It features a motif of Halley’s Comet decorated with rose cut diamonds and a white pearl, set in 15 karat gold, over a disk of lapis lazuli as blue as the night sky. It’s locket backed with a photograph of a well-clad gentleman. The pendant measures 28 x 20 mm and the chain length measures 18.5 inches. It weighs 12.7 grams. There are no marks and it has been acid tested.

A pendant as stellar as this might just be the pendant to end all pendants.
