Victorian Natural Sapphire Ring 5 Stone 18k Gold

There are so many blues in the world. What’s your favorite? Is it the water just off Shell Beach on a sunny day? Is it the bright clear sky over the Rocky Mountains? Do you like it a gray-blue like an angry ocean or a pale turquoise like the egg of a Robin? I personally like them all, but when it comes to sapphires, give me cobalt, give me the saturation of a moonless desert sky at night, rich and bright and unending blue as far as the eye can see.

This ring is like that, it has that blue, that desert sky at night kind of blue. It’s a simple yet stunning classic of a ring, set with five glowing old cut Sapphires which graduate in size from a center stone of .55 carats down to end stones of .28, altogether the sapphire add up to about 1.85 carats in total. These natural stones have a rich and subtle beauty that is enhanced by a lovely 18 karat gold mount. This ring was hand crafted, probably in England, in about 1890, it has no marks but has been carefully acid tested, it has traces of having been plated, I think with Rhodium, the settings appears a bit white and there is a bit of the Rhodium still in the swirling designs at the shoulders. I like it, gives it a bit of a two-tone look.

The ring measures 6.1 mm north to south and 20 mm across and sits 4 mm off the hand, it narrows to 1.5 mm at the back of the band. This Victorian beauty is a size 8 and weighs 5 grams.
