Victorian Poison Ring Locket 15k Gold Opens

I try not to play favorites, really I do, but sometimes it just can’t be helped. Every time I go buying I come across a piece or three, or let’s face it, twenty, that I just absolutely adore. When I came across this ring on my last trip I didn’t even think twice, I knew I had to have it.

This hand crafted signet ring has shoulders that are made to look like armor plating, complete with rivets and overlapping details. The top of the ring is a locket or a secret compartment, made to hold?? I don’t know what? A secret? A poison? A lock of a lovers hair? I suspect it’s held many things over the years, as it was likely made in about 1870, and certainly made in England.

This 15 karat gold ring measures 14.2 mm north to south and 11.8 mm across at the top and sits 3 mm off the finger, it narrows to 2.8 mm at the back of the band. This size 6.5 ring weighs 3.8 grams. This ring is unmarked and has been carefully acid tested to determine gold content.
