Antique Victorian Moss Agate Silver Bracelet Scottish Pebble Jewelry
Moss agate seems to be undergoing a Renaissance of sorts, it was popular with the Victorians and it’s coming into its own once again. I wonder why? Perhaps it’s because moss agate is said to encourage tranquility and emotional balance, to promote healing and restoration; things we could all use more of these days? The Victorians probably loved it for the same reasons, they were such a sentimental lot, they loved to delve into the ‘meaning’ of flowers, plants and stones. Then again maybe, then as now, we just love it because it’s beautiful?
This wonderful moss agate panel bracelet was hand crafted in about 1860. While most of the Scottish tourist pieces were made in England and then shipped to Scotland to be sold, I would guess that this bracelet was actually made in Scotland, which is where I found it. The bracelet is crafted of six panels of smooth, oval moss agate interlinked with chain. Each panel measures 29.5 mm north to south and 23 mm across, each is 4.5 mm thick. The bracelet is 6.5 inches long and has a hidden clasp, it weighs 26.8 grams. This wonderful piece is in lovely condition with no cracks or notable chips, it’s a chunky piece that wears as well today as it did over 160 years ago!
